How’s it working for you? If you’ve not heard this question before, you have now. It pertains to so much in life, good and bad, that I find it useful to keep in my arsenal.
When you experience frustration, you throw your toys out of the crib (metaphorically). How’s that working for you?
When one yells at one’s kids, spouse, friend, or passerby, it is invariably a loss of self-control that will only leave some degree of unwanted residue in one’s psyche. Conversely, if there is something that needs to be said, we need to find the courage to say it (in a constructive manner), as holding it in will likewise do internal mental damage. The mind is a radical energy in our well-being.
A friend of mine asked me how I was doing in my recovery from the paralysis I suffered at the start of 2024. Well, I am in the Love Run in Philly this March, I answered. So, what did you do? He asked.
My response was a little vague by normal standards. I answered, quoting a Neurologist – Remember, the body wants to be well! Initially, I went to my GP, who referred me to a Rheumatologist, who in turn wanted to put me on steroids. Having had experience with Prednisone and suffered its side effects, I did not follow that course. I then reverted to my homeopathic routes and sought guidance from a lady I had worked with to overcome my Lyme back when. Again, I did my obedient tour of duty but found that her business model and my needs were not generating the results.
How’s that working for you? certainly came to mind. Luckily, in May of last year, a major change occurred, and my stepmother (93), whom I was offering 24/7 care, passed away. Relieved of my duties, I visited my friends and old stomping grounds and found a lift in my psychological situation. Through my friend, a chiropractor, and his MD associate, I found that my lameness could be relieved, and so I asked what I could do to make myself well.
Through a series of exercises and focusing on future goals, I mentally and physically have slowly progressed to the point where not only will I do the Love Run (Walking), but I have entered a triathlon in July, with the aspiration that I will be fully well. It is not for public consumption; in the sense, it is a journey of self-discipline and slow recovery. But I know that, from being unable to walk unassisted and not being able to raise my arms above shoulder level, I have recovered enough incrementally that I feel confident that I will be well again.
The harrowing duty of 24/7 care behind me lifted a huge burden. My conflict of how do I keep my word and save Nancy from an old people’s home and retain my wellbeing, lifted.
I could have yielded to the numbing of my body and not taken the long way of finding what WORKS for me. Is this for everyone? NO. But it comes back to how it’s working for you. In the knowledge that the body wants to be well, I used every avenue to help it.
Shameless, I also promote the wound cream here. The non-peroxidal function of medical grade (+15 UMF) honey is a way to heal, which is supportive of the epidermis. It helps the skin to heal back to its desired state. See the wound pictures of a Rotator cuff operation below.
Thank you for reading, and look out for Postcards that will come to you. My goal is that we get support in the Postcard exchange and people have fun sending and receiving them, as in gentler times.
