EPISODE 43

HOW NICE IS THAT!

As Spring brings the optimism of summer to our door, so I see all around me the rituals of hope and belief. In a small way, it portends that all can be well despite gathering clouds of dysfunction.

My village/town had 2 events that reminded me of that:

* A vintage car assembly where the old timers were relieved from their winter lodgings and young and old enjoyed a walk through the display, while quelling their need for summer BBQ by frequenting the concession stands.

* The weekend following there was a gathering of motorcyclists, some 500 from around the region, to get a blessing for all riders for a safe and joyous summer. Again, meandering among the bikes of all shapes and sizes, ridden by men and women, without judgment, gave one a feeling of camaraderie, despite not being a biker myself.

These two events reminded me that people of all stripes want to gather, share experiences, exchange stories, and love life; politics go hang!

Inspired, I decided to have a BBQ of my own. The invitation was for young and old, and we were in the end some 15 people. Apart from the usual fare of salads, grilled veggies, and meats, I decided that I would arrange games, in the harking back to yesteryear! Badminton and Tug o’ War.

Initial reaction was WHAT? Let me tell you, I have seldom seen so much laughter and one-upmanship as was engendered by the Tug o’ War! Kids against parents, husbands vs each other, kids vs kids. All in all, HOW NICE WAS THAT!

As I watched and refereed the activity, not only were the participants fully engaged, but the cheering from the side was in full throat. In over an hour, I saw no one defer to their cell phone or sit aside! Indeed, how nice that is!

Spring is here, now summer. People can mix and appreciate each other. My next BBQ I shall revert to other old village activities, such as: Egg toss, Corn hole, sack race, etc. They all help us be the Childlike creatures we seem to excel at, if allowed.

As you enter the social season gatherings, see what you can offer to bring people (of different opinions and politics) together. We need reminding that we basically all want the same things: Security, fellowship, fun – our differences melt if we start from our common needs!

And now a word from the Beehive – The economic chaos has hurt us quite a bit. We need to widen our base, and if you can put a good word in for our products with friends, THANK YOU! If you can gift our lip balm and spread the word in the summer THANK YOU! Should sunburn afflict you or a loved one, our wound cream is a good friend in those times of need, make sure you have it on hand, THANK YOU! www.honeyforhealing.com can help you

Yours Aye, Gjoko
